Below you can see a few examples of posters / key art I created for various projects from an award-winning short film to the world premiere of a live theatrical production to concept art I created for a Fringe festival. I have included a bit about each project below the gallery, click here to go directly to the descriptions: A Bit More About the Projects.
A Bit More About the Projects
DesiQuest
DesiQuest is an all Desi cast “actual play” D&D show, in the vein of Dimension 20, and Critical Role, where actors sit around a table and play D&D, getting into character and using miniatures and sets on the table to represent the action of the game. I worked with the team at EffinFunny to create graphics surrounding the show including the show’s key art. I really enjoyed working on this project as it allowed me to create some pretty rad visual effects using the Boris FX Optics plugin for Photoshop. The idea was to create an image that showcased the actors dressed as their characters performing magic that related to the class each of them play in the campaign. If you’d like to take a look at more work I created for DesiQuest as well as the graphics I created for their Kickstarter campaign, be sure to check out my DesiQuest Campaign page.
Origin of a Hero
Origin of a Hero is an award-winning short film with an interesting take on Batman’s origin story. I illustrated this poster as well as the title treatment to be used as key art for the film. To take a look at the end titles I created for the film, follow this link: Video and to take a closer look at the illustrations I created to use in the end titles, you can go here: Illustration
Sins
Sins is a play that premiered at the 2019 Hollywood Fringe Festival and was performed again at the 2022 Festival. The show is a dark comedy poking fun at the trope of a full-of-themselves director who writes, directs, and stars in their own show. I designed this poster to reflect a super serious if not overly pretentious play. I used Lorem Ipsum text as the text in the background as if the director asked the artist to put placeholder text in the design and never told them what to replace that text with so just ran with it as-is.
DesiQuest
DesiQuest is an all Desi cast “actual play” D&D show. I worked with EffinFunny to create the graphics for their Kickstarter campaign—where they were fully funded in under SIX hours (THREE times their initial funding goal)! The first art I created for the project was the key art “hero” image you see above. My client provided me with the image of the hand with Henna artwork on it and I did the rest using Photoshop to create the effects and modify stock imagery I found on free-for-commercial-use stock image sites. To read more about the project and to see additional pieces I created for it, click here: DesiQuest.
Mono/Poly the Play
Mono/Poly is a play about a polyamorous triad. I created the marketing/advertising materials—including merch, interview videos, digital advertising, and more—for the world premiere in 2019. This poster was a real “Frankensteining” of various free-for-commercial-use stock imagery I sourced for the project. To read more about the project, to see additional pieces I created for it, and to view the drafting process for the final key art, click here: Mono/Poly.
DuoFest
I created this poster for BostonCourt’s “DuoFest”—a music festival featuring various musical duos. I illustrated the skyline at the top as well as the Griffith Observatory to lean into the Los Angeles area as the festival took place in Pasadena.
With Love and a Major Organ
I created this key art for the Boston Court production of With Love and a Major Organ by Julia Lederer. The writer liked the poster so much, she took one of them with her after the show finished its run. Important moments of the show take place on the subway, so I leaned into the Los Angeles metro lines and the California coastline for the artwork as a stop on the Los Angeles Metro’s Gold line is about half a mile from Boston Court itself.
Hollywood Fringe Festival Concept Art
The Hollywood Fringe Festival is a live theatre festival that has taken place every year—with the exception of 2020—since 2010. Each year, the look of the guidebook changes based on the artist who designs the cover. One thing they all have in common is that they feature some version of the Fringe Freaks—Muppet-like creatures created for the inaugural festival. I created these concepts based on a mood board provided by the Fringe directors for the 2023 festival. These designs didn’t end up being used, but I enjoyed working on them. I illustrated the Freaks to look fairly close to the original designs and had fun making a couple of the designs look like Andy Warhol artwork.
